Here's the necklace I made:
It reminds me of a cat stargazing at night. Think of the "Figaro" episode with Sylvester and Elmer Fudd! |
I love the pink and black with the shiny gunmetal. |
Twelve lucky stars and one on the extender. It's a 20" chain, plus the extension. Very comfortable and lightweight to wear! |
Now, for the story behind the creation. I considered many superstitions that would have been fun to incorporate into a piece of jewelry. If I had just the right bit of ladder shaped chain, I would have used it (it's bad luck to walk under a ladder). I had some wood beads (knock on wood for luck), but they didn't go along with my design. I have some crackle beads (step on a crack, break your mother's back), but decided to keep it simple. Of course, I used the black cat. Many people believe it's bad luck for a black cat to cross your path. I mounted this one onto a midnight toned gunmetal filigree that frames it quite nicely. I added 13 (because it's a superstitious number) stars (because people wish on them for luck). They are pink rhodonite star beads, and doesn't the black and pink look pretty together? You can find the chain at B'sue Boutiques Jewelry Supply as well as the jump rings.
Read this article for 10 superstitions about stars. I never heard of some of these! But I'm sure you've heard or said "Well thank my lucky stars..."
I'm not sure if I will list this in my Etsy shop or keep this one. I might just share it with my daughter! I hate to part with my limited edition kitty.
This is the list of participants in the blog hop. Start with Tammy, and then you can skip mine since you've already visited, and go on to Betony's next. I love comments, and so do the other hoppers, so feel free to comment on the pieces they've worked so hard on. Thanks again, Tammy, and thank YOU!
I love your selection of 13 stars to go with the cat pendant. Well done! I say if your daughter wants it, you should give it to her. I am giving mine to my daughter!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy! We decided to share it. We just can't part with it!
DeleteI love the pink stars with the black and grey. That filigree is so fitting as a backdrop to the pendant.
ReplyDeleteI think your daughter would love to share it with you. But if she's like my daughter you'll not get it back.
Thank you, Deb! We did decide to keep it and share it. She is pretty good about keeping all the jewelry I give her in her jewelry box, so I think she will let me borrow it.
DeleteWhat a lovely necklace, I love the 13 pink stars with the black cat, no wonder your daughter wants it!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Thank you, Karin! We're going to keep it and share it. I love the black and pink, too.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine! Since then, we've been having a real black cat visit our yard. It's the only one that will not run away, and let us pet it : )

ReplyDeleteYes, we are keeping and sharing it, Divya! Thank you!
DeleteGreat necklace! Love those cascading stars with the lucky cat bead! I also like your thinking along the lines of ladder chain and crackle beads. Even though you didn't use them, I think you are clever to think of them! I was so literal when I thought of what to use.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ann. That is why I love doing challenges and blog hops. They really get me to try new things, and I've grown as a designer because of it. Tammy's cat was fun to use!
DeleteVery pretty! love the stars, they're wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you! There are a ton of superstitions about stars, I learned a lot during this hop!
DeleteI am loving your design. The dangles under the pendant look like shooting stars! I love the color choice as well because I am partial to pink!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome piece - I love the addition of the stars and of course 13 of them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the information about the stars - I really had no clue about some of those.
The stars under the cat bead made me feel the cat is being raised to the air. Like the magic pixie dust in Tinker Bell. A very cute design.
